It Seems Everybody Is Talking About ‘Sex Baby’

I couldn't help but have the lyrics to that song come to my mind this morning as I read the headlines.
"Let's talk about sex, baby
Let's talk about you and me
And all the good things that may be"
O.k., I will spare you the rest so you won't have it stuck in your head all day as well. Of course, most likely it already is. Today the news is once again about sex everywhere you turn, but something seemed different about the news today.
"If you look at studies, studies say in 30 days you can develop a habit," Pastor Paul Wirth told Fox News. It definitely caught wives in the church by surprise. "Our married people are far more fearful than our single people," said Wirth.
I love that. It probably is so true. Married people are probably the ones the most fearful about it. Sex is such an intimate thing and to be intimate every day for the entire month could throw those couples for a loop. Wirth has found biblical references that he says suggest Jesus disapproved of pre-marital sex and promoted sex in marriage. So, he believes people connect to God through life-long commitment. That's why he tells his single followers to abstain, and his married followers to indulge. For more information on the church, visit http://www.relevantchurch.com/
Those old couples that might need some advice or help in the bedroom in order to succeed in the 30-day challenge could look to Yale University for some advice. The Ivy League school is the second top news story with its controversial Sex Week on Campus coming up. During eight days of programming at Yale, students can learn everything from how to achieve a state beyond bliss to the proper application of personal lubricants. And it's all free, if you don't count the cost for room and board and tuition.
In 2004, the biennial event won the Collegiate Network's Campus Outrage Award. Now in its fourth incarnation, Sex Week at Yale 2008 includes a lecture by a VH1 host of "The Pick-Up Artist" and an off-campus "Skull and Boned" party, in which students who dress as porn stars will be judged on their resemblance of actual porn stars by an adult-film director.
They have lectures on sex toys scheduled as well as some discussions on sex. The discussion on porn with adult stars Ron Jeremy and Monique Alexander and Craig Gross, the founder of the XXXchurch.com, and a lecture on sex and spirituality that includes abstinence proponent Dawn Eden are expected to draw crowds. The week also offers a sexually transmitted disease screening drive.
Of course, advocates and proponents are coming out of their holes to voice their opinion on the week at Yale. I think having a sex week does no harm. If you raise your kids with the right morals, some gadgets and speakers aren't going to corrupt them. I think it will help them be more open in discussing the good and bad that comes along with sex. Let's be realistic, these are college students we are talking about. Sex is probably on their mind the majority of the day and they probably spend more time thinking about it.
What a great opportunity for Christians to be able to share what the Bible says about sex. So those against the Yale Sex Week, quit complaining and listen to what is said. Who knows you might actually learn something. For more information on events, visit http://www.sexweekatyale.com/

Top-level comments on this article: (1 total)Good article, Laura, but I have to disagree with you. Can you imagine your child a few years from now going off to college and being encouraged to indulge in a week long sex party? Trust me on this, abstinence will not be the topic. Will it hurt the kids? Yes, no matter how much you ground your kids in what is right and even if they have high morals and a relationship with God, this is a situation in which one lapse of their good judgement could lead to a life of responsibility, heartache, illness and maybe even an early death. I wouldn't even want my spouse to sit through presentations by those who condone unethical sex. I wonder how long before high schools follow suit? You wouldn't discourage your kids to going to a debate between a religious scholar and an atheist. How is this any different? I invite you to go to xxxchurch.com if you have never heard of their cause. The debate that takes place tonight at Yale will actually be shown on ABCnews. com and Nightline. There will be parties, but if your children are with high morals, chances are they will just not go. The information and debates are educational. I encourage you to look at what the week is about-I am not disagreeing that it does have some unethical sex talk, but it also has some good. As Christians, if we continue to hide from the bad sex talk-our side will never be heard. Thanks for commenting!
