How Much Should A Stay At Home Mom Make?

A new study has been released just in time for Mother's Day detailing how much a mother would make if she received a salary for her work. The amount is phenomenal. Are you ready for how much mom is worth in monetary value?
Brace yourself!
According to a study done by salary.com, if a mother was to get paid with an income as opposed to just love, she would make almost $117,000 a year. Can you believe that?
This year, the annual salary for a stay-at-home mom would be $116,805, while a working mom who also juggles an outside job would get $68,405 for her motherly duties.
The reason for the highness of the mom's theoretical salary is the amount of overtime pay she'd receive for working more than 40 hours a week. The 18,000 moms surveyed in the salary.com study about their typical week reported working 94.4 hours - meaning they'd be spending more than half their working hours on overtime.
Working moms reported an average 54.6 hour "mom work week" besides the hours they spent at paying jobs.
These studies seem silly, but I think as a mom it is a relief to realize that we do have worth. It can be hard being the main caregiver 24 hours a day for seven days a week. Just to have someone, anyone, realize that you never get a break can be beneficial.
I always knew that career moms were worth more monetarily than most careers or jobs, but I would have never guessed this much of a salary. I guess I need to talk to my husband about an increase in allowance.
I can't wait to hear my brother make that comment again about someone just being a mom. To be able to say, "Well, technically if she was paid what she is worth, she would make way more than you ever do."
It is the hardest job in the world. Nothing is more time consuming than molding and shaping a future adult. Not to mention the lack of sick days you get. You are always on the go no matter what circumstances exist.
This Mother's Day, moms should hold their heads high as they are lavished with their homemade gifts! After all, you are worth more than a $100,000. Better yet, maybe it is time you ask for a day off of paid vacation! Happy Mother's Day!

Hi Laura, great article!1 I always look forward to your next article. You are so blessed to have so many different topics to write about. You are great at finding trivia--which reminds me, I promised another writer I would research sea horses since they are my favorite and then write about them. Oh yeah, about your article, (selfish me) It is nice to know that mom's would earn a higher salary than the average.. they certainly earned that and more! But who can put a price on love?
