Random Thoughts On A Rainy Day

It occurred to me this morning that weather men really do not have a lot to get excited about with their job. Maybe it is because we live in Houston and the weather for the most part is pretty moderate.

Houston has heat waves, hurricanes, flooding and the occasional coldness. Today the meteorologist on the radio seemed to be rejoicing. About what, you may ask? He was excited because we may break a weather record. Apparently, it has never been as cold as it is today on this date.  He voice was so excited as he announced that our high most likely will only be 44 today and the last record was set on this date at 49 degrees. Woopee! I think he would have thrown a party this morning if he could despite not knowing the outcome of his prediction.

It was inspiring to hear him long to set the record today. It was at that point that it occurred to me that weather men really do not have a lot to look forward to in their job. They predict the weather based on computer modules. However, most of the time, they are off at what the actual weather is like.

The weather somehow went from 80 degrees and sunny to 45 degrees and rainy in a span of two days. We wonder why we are sick all the time?

Add to the yucky weather, I have an eight-year-old home with strep throat. The worse part is he just announced he wants to stay eight forever and never grow older.

"Really? You like running this fever and being sick," I ask naively.

"Yes, because when you are eight you get lots of birthday presents. How come old people don't get presents?"

"Because once you get older birthdays are just a reminder that you are one year closer to death," I reply sarcastically.

We have had no sleep for the last three nights because my son continues to have high fever. Add the rainy weather to the lack of sleep, and I make one grumpy mom.

"I wish you could stay eight forever too! That way you will always be my little boy and never leave the house." I said.

"Maybe I should rethink that plan," he says laughing.

"Nice to know the fever hasn't taken away your sense of humor."

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to be a dog owner on a rainy day? My dog refuses to go outside or he goes outside and never wants to come in. There is no happy medium.

He will play in the water, but refuse to go to the bathroom in the grass because he doesn't want his paws or behind wet? Makes no sense. They are strange creatures.

Michelle Obama announced her advocacy platform at a military base today. She told how she wants to reach out to military families and financially give to them. She met with military wives and read a book to preschoolers.

It got me to thinking what I would advocate for in my own household. What are some issues that need addressed and solved in my own house?

I came up with a few.

The revitalization of the nap. The nap is quickly becoming extinct and needs attention fast. No longer should we pretend like the nap is not being done away with. We must save the exercise. We must save the nap. If for no other reason, it needs to be revitalized for my sanity.

The revitalization of the economy. Really does this need explanation? This family has slacked long enough, it is time I take a stand and in turn make money for the family. Why can't money grow on trees?

The revitalization of junkfood. Is there a reason why we can't have a house stocked with chocolate at all times? I really think this is an issue I can support with more then 100 percent!

Of course, all of this is to be taken in a light-hearted manner. After all, I am going on zero hours of sleep. The lack of sleep is the reason that I should probably not be writing in the first place.

You funny gal! I think the lack of sleep makes for terrific writing...and it's equally terrific that your son has apparently inherited your sense of humor. BRAVO!
