Describe God In Ten Words Or Less

My mother used to tell me that you
should never discuss "religion or politics" in public. As a young
one, I never listened. I remember in my college years having so much
passion whether it was misguided or not, I had no issues with sharing
what I believed.
As I grew older, I quit having those
discussions. I am not sure if it is fear that sets in or what. As
adults, we try not to ruffle any feathers. We quit discussing those
issues that can cause disagreements. Then an election year comes. We
find ourselves arguing and fighting, not knowing how to have those
civilized discussions.
Recently, I have become amazed at
humanity. The headline question is one of many discussions going on
at a site called SoulPancake. SoulPancake is the brain child of Rainn
Wilson. For those who do not know who that is, it is Dwight from the
t.v. Show, The Office.
Wilson wanted a place that individuals
could go to discuss the important meanings of life.
Describe God in Ten Words Or
Less" was the most twittered about topic last week. How would you
answer? It was interesting to see the responses from people all over.
Some answered "not real' and that was it. Others found it easy to
come up with ten words.
After much thought, I would say: God
is: love, real, omnipotent, trustworthy, sacrificial, creator, holy,
omnipresent, provider and relational.
It is funny to me that everyone had an
opinion and no one resorted to demeaning others thoughts or views.
Some thought God was female. What ever their thoughts, they seemed to
be respected despite disagreements.
I think that is the great thing about
this site. Since it isn't a live debate, disagreements seem to be
more civil. A civil conversation about stuff that matters-what an
awesome idea! I think it sounds like what God really wanted the
CHURCH to be, a place where people can come to discuss teachings in a
civil manner without judgment.
The question of course comes as to what
does Rainn Wilson believe? I have been looking for that answer, but
yet to figure it out. I know he was the person who sparked the idea
of this site. Other than that, not sure what he personally believes,
but in the mean time, it is a great tool to share and persuade others
about your own personal beliefs.
What was your answer be to the above
question? Leave it in the comments. I would love to hear what your
descriptions of God are.
Then check out the site and take part
in other discussions such as "Does America Need To Be Rebranded,"
"What will it take to have true equality between men and women"
or "How does where you live influence your creativity?"
