Hubby Not Listening? Maybe You Are Talking IN The Wrong Ear

A study released out of Italy today says it makes a difference what ear people talk into when making requests. Scientists claim that if you want to get someone to do something, tell them to do it in their right ear.
I found this study interesting. My hubby and I do most of our talking before going to sleep at night, I realize I am talking to his left ear the majority of the time because of what side of the bed he sits on at night. It explains so much!
Think about what ear you use when you hold the phone. I use my right. Scientists noticed in this study that most people use their right.
The study consisted of three separate tests of clubbers. They found in the first test that while loud music was playing, clubbers would talk to one another using the right ear.
The second test was also done in a club in which researchers mumbled something inaudible then waited to see what ear was offered. Fifty-eight percent offered their right ear.
The final test was one where researchers asked those in the club for a cigarette alternating which ear they put the request in. They received significant more cigarettes when asking into the right ear.
I am not sure that the test were very conclusive on valid because other factors could of played in during these tests such as was the speakers on the left side or did people just not have a cigarette to give.
Scientifically, though, the results make sense. Professor Sophie Scott, of the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London, said in the BBC News, "Most people process speech and language on the left-hand side of the brain and while it is not cut-and-dry a lot of what goes in our right ear will be dealt with by the left-side of the brain."
I guess tonight I should change sides with my hubby and next time he says he never heard me, maybe he really didn't. One thing is for certain, from now on, I am talking only in his right ear!

Well, since I am left handed, I automatically lend my left ear and I almost always have the phone on my left ear...hhmm, maybe this does make sense. I am an extremely forgetful person. Thanks for sharing this interesting find. Love you!! T

Can you tell me your sources for this information? I teach on the essential oils and they say to anoint the right ear?!
Laura, you never cease to amaze me! This is a great study, of course this would be hard to determine as you say if one has no cigarette. Or, how about if the individual was in the war, and had deafness in that ear due to "shell shock", of being around so much gunfire like my father in law (God Rest his soul). This is interesting however in the sense that over half the people tested listened with their right ear....very interesting, in that case, I hear everything my wife says because she sleeps on my right side, so I reckon there is no excuse, hahahahhahahaa, oh well, I never can win, good to be reading your work again, I have been writing a book, but took a break to gather my thoughts.....Great to see you and thanks for the wonder welcome back!!!!! your fan, and friend.....Gary
