Microsoft Really Needs To Take Lessons From Apple On Marketing

It is no secret that our family is an Apple family. We are those annoying people with the Apple logo stickers on the back of the car. Our kid walks around proudly with his free Apple logo camp shirt.

Yes, my husband is the annoying guy in every office talking about how everyone should switch to an Apple or how he could get so much more work done if he was working on an Apple.

We were sold very young on Apple. In college, while working on the college yearbook, we were introduced to one of the original Apples, or at least it seemed that way. We called it "Baby." We spent many endless nights in that office and those Apple computers met many deadlines without us once wanting to throw them out the window.

We have moved up over the years. iMacs, iPods, iPhones, etc. and we have never been disappointed. We gladly market for Apple. This I believe is why Apple is so successful. The word of mouth advertising.

It starts young, don't get me wrong. Apple offers free camps for youth. My son is now an Apple supporter quickly trying to tell all his friends about the store and its computers.

Microsoft, however, continues to struggle when it comes to marketing. Which begs me to ask the question, why do they continue to put forward the same bad ideas?

Their latest campaign makes me want to go hide under the couch for the company. I am literally embarrassed for them. the premise is to build word of mouth advertising among friends. The outcome is pretty sad.

They are asking Windows' users to host "Windows 7 Launch Parties." Yes, you did hear me correctly. They want you to invite your friends over for a party and entertain them with a series of Windows 7 tutorials.  Man, that sounds like a party! NOT!

Microsoft has uploaded a series of videos to YouTube to assist you in your party throwing. Warning: Do not watch it on a full stomach.

Yes, they used the token individuals from each minority. How insulting is this video?

What are your thoughts? Would you consider holding a Microsoft Launch Party at your home? Do you think this advertising campaign will be successful? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

I love Apple and never had a virus or crash when working on one at home or in the office (BUT the software was so much more expensive that we now have a PC and the older Apple is in a closet in case the PC breaks down....) Marijo

I agree that the software is so expensive Marijo!! We have two older Macs that are being used more as a paperweight because the software is so outdated! AT least yours is still in the house! Thanks so much for commenting!!

I must say that I am not overjoyed with my pc, but the one and only Mac I bought was a dud. Two weeks after I purchased it the motherboard went out and the store I purchased it at said Apple would repair it. It was at the Apple manufacturer and it took me three months to get it back. I am glad you have had such a great experience with Apple.
