Five Reasons Having A Girl Changes Everything

My daughter turns five today. Technically, she doesn't turn five until 11:42 p.m. tonight. I know it is hard to believe that someone who doesn't look a day over 18 could possibly have a five-year-old, but it is true.
O.k. humor me today! My baby is getting too big, I need some slack.
Having a girl was a huge accomplishment for our family. My husband is one of four boys. That in of itself made us realize that this girl, no matter how she turned out was going to be special.
She is a tough girl but at the same time the girly-est girl you will ever meet. In the spirit of celebrating our girl, I write this article. It is the five reasons having a girl changes everything in this mom's heart.
Make believe world takes on new meaning
Pretending to my daughter is a necessary part of life. She can sometimes live in her fantasy world from the time she wakes up until the time she goes to sleep. I love this! Yes, boys pretend to be construction workers and firemen, but girls pretend the whole kit and kaboodle.
Yesterday, we got to be princesses complete with sparkly hairdos and lip gloss. We got to create stuffed animals, fantasize about who she was going to marry, pretend to be a mechanic fixing her bike and the list goes on and on. When they play house at recess, they have a scripted play with friends playing mom, dad, sister and even the pets. Her favorite days are when she gets to be the dog.
I know it sounds silly but between make-believe shopping, cooking, mommying, etc., it is just a whole new world that was never there with my son.
She will always be close
You know the saying about boys grow up and leave their mommas, but girls always stay close. I once had a friend who had all boys who prayed that they would marry orphans so that they would stay close and still need them. I am looking forward to being her child's grandma and babysitter. I can't wait to see what she is like as a real mom as opposed to a "pretend" mom.
Dramatic
I know this is the quality we hate sometimes the most, but there is something about having a dramatic girl. Her stories are so detailed and exciting. It is like reading a book that you do not want to put down. I love it!
There is never enough pink
I never liked the color pink before i had a girl. Now it is the most beautiful color in the world and we can not get enough of it. I know it is silly, but something changes. This morning my daughter saw a pink car.
"Mom!! I never knew there were pink cars!!" she exclaimed from the back seat.
"Did you see one?"
"Yes, back there. It was a light, light pink," she said.
"Would you want a pink car when you grow up," I ask.
"Oh Yes! But it would have to be hot pink,"
Ha! I love that! Pink is such a feminine color and women should be proud to display it with pride. I have ever since having her.
Sense of humor
Girls have these amazing sense of humors, at least mine does. It isn't like boys. Boys can crack up about farts for hours, and i don't think they grow out of that.
One day my daughter was telling me something dramatically about school. Something she said reminded me of her father. I, of course, being the mom told her that she is "so much like her father."
Her response with a straight face and the most dramatic tone, "Why do I always have to be the one who is like him!!" Then, of course, she cracked up laughing.
This morning after my husband got off the phone with her wishing her a Happy Birthday, she asked me this question.
"Who was that man on the phone?"
She is a riot! Girls can be hilarious at times.
I end this by saying Happy Birthday to my Hannah, who is definitely one of a kind. However, if you are expecting a girl, I suggest you strap yourself in and enjoy the ride. There is no feeling like it.
