Thanksgiving Blessings: Too Many To Count

It comes that year again, when writers turn to the "what I am thankful for" piece. I think it is required that every writer spill all their personal emotions on the screen (paper-if you are old school) every Thanksgiving.
Maybe it is too much time in school and having the same assignment given year after year or maybe we have nothing else to write about but our egos won't let us not write. :)
(imagine your most sarcastic tone)"Thanksgiving is just another day for us since we thank God every day for our blessings!"
Yes, gag me with a spoon! (yes, i grew up in the 80s)
Man, I have a lot of side comments today. (guess it is too much coffee) Without further ado, here is my annual list of what I am thankful for this year.
My God-Of course I am grateful for my God and his daily putting up with me. This year was a trying year and I know without a doubt God was right there pulling me along kicking and screaming. The sad thing is he never gave up and loved me through it all. I am thankful that this year I have grown closer to Him then ever before. I hope I can say that every year.
Texas-o.k. this is kind of a joke. Sorry to offend. It is a Texas thing. It goes God then Texas right? I really was just joking, but since we are talking about it. I am thankful I live in this small town in Tomball, Texas. Needs at the food pantries have been unprecedented averaging over 600 families in need every month for the last six months. Donations have also been at the highest. Who can not get excited about living in a town that supports one another through the hard times?
This little town of mine not only has a great school that teaches these great values (my son's school donated over 5,000 cans of food this year), but it also has loving teachers who work their hearts out for my kid. Also, for the first time, we have a ice skating rink opened for the holidays-how cool is that!?!
When I moved from a much smaller town in Arkansas, Texas seemed overwhelming. I am thankful we found this town that I can call home and found many friends that we can call family.
My family-My husband and I will celebrate our 11th anniversary this weekend. I thank God every year that we made it through another year. Marriage is such a gift and I am thankful for my husband, one of the cutest and smartest gifts. I also have amazing kids, but I will spare you that ego trip. I am sure you are tired of it from my other articles. My extended family grew this year. We gained a sister-in-law and before summer of next year, we will have a new nephew. Who wouldn't be thankful for new family members?
I love watching family at Thanksgiving. It is always an event for a people watcher. Families are not chosen, but they are the ones that will be there forever. I am thankful for my extended family and all the experiences they bring into our lives.
Jobs-I am grateful to be able to work for Searchwarp! I am thankful for the friends I have made over the years. I am thankful for great bosses who support and can make you laugh at times. I am thankful for a great co-worker who always answers when I can't get to the job in time.
This year was especially hard for us with my husband changing jobs. I am thankful and grateful that God always provides the work we need when we need it! I am thankful that we did not burst into a million pieces when we felt like it many times.
My church-When Rob was laid off from our church, I have to admit I was heartbroken. I see now it was God's plan, but I loved the women I had become close to there and I honestly was not sure I would still have those friends when I left - it is a Baptist church after all.
God is so good. We have an amazing new church that I never could imagine and He taught us many things about what church really is along the way. I have an amazing group of new friends and still have old friends. I feel fuller because of our work in the church and the community. I am thankful for our pastors, the impact the church is making and just finding a new home.
Twilight-o.k., it isn't just thrown in for Google hits. I debated since the books were released about reading them. My objections were not some Christian high horse thing, (if you have those objections, you need to get a clue) but instead because of my personality. I have a very addicted personality and to listen to people talk about the books, I was terrified that I would place demands on people out of a want or need for that kind of passionate life. Not sure I am making any sense.
However, I am thankful for Twilight. What an amazing book. I am only started the second book, but I can't fathom how much I would have missed out on. This Thanksgiving, I can say that I am thankful for Stephanie Meyer for bringing really good writing back!!
Sports-Thanksgiving is about sports, right? o.k., we have the Aggie versus Longhorn game that every Texan has to be thankful for every year even when the Aggies suck and it is apparent they will be blown away. But we also have the most important tournament this weekend. The Klein Soccer Tournament in which my son will battle for the ultimate championship. And to kick off the weekend, my husband will once again pretend that he is not old and play in his soccer game at 10:20 p.m. tonight. Then he will complain the rest of the weekend about a swollen knee and bad back. Of course, I am thankful for the fun sports bring to our family.
O.k., I have literally shared way, way too much. After all, now you know my weaknesses about vampires named Edward. Plus, I am sure the response at this point is "how much more egotistical can this writer get."
Please feel free to leave what you are thankful for this year in the comment section below.
Happy Thanksgiving!
