Kids will be able to track Santa in a multitude of mediums this year.
Between the traditional North American Aerospace Defense Command, or better known as Norad, and all the newcomer tracking devices, takes tracking for kids to a new level.
Children can follow his progress via its website or on Twitter, Facebook or via Google Maps or Google Earth.
As a family who traditionally uses Norad, this news of more options excites us. Technology this season has added so much more enjoyment to our break from the normal life.
AT&T U-verse is our cable/internet provider. This year, starting at the beginning of the month, they have had their own Santa tracking channel.
Since Santa has not been on the move yet, the channel has offered games, karaoke, crafts and endless entertainment.
As a mom, I can not tell you how easy it is to turn on the karaoke and work while my kids crack themselves up singing. I have never heard so much laughter and today they started adding choreography. Yes, my kids are dorks!
But hey, they now know all of the words to "I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas." What kids doesn't need that knowledge in life?
Norad has been tracking Santa for over 50 years. The tradition goes back to a misprint in a Colorado newspaper advertisement in 1955.
The hotline to Santa promised by the paper actually connected to what was known then as the Continental Air Defense Command (Conad).
As more phone calls came in, the commander on the other end of the phone started to pretend he was Santa and the tradition continued in 1958 when Conad became Norad.
This year, tracking goes to a whole new level which leads me asking, ‘how much more awesome does our kids have it today?'
Tonight my kids will get to track Santa as he goes past 24 Santa cams. Then add to that, they also have the opportunity to see what the Elves are doing and if they are keeping up.
I missed out on so much in my childhood without technology. I am excited to see my kids' faces tonight as they bring the night before Christmas to a whole new level of anticipation.
