What Is SENSA and Does It Work?

SENSA is quickly becoming the talk of everyone around the food buffet. The question is what is it and will it actually work?

SENSA is not new. Surprisingly, it was first made popular in 2008 in a segment on Dateline.

During the time of the Dateline story, Dr. Alan Hirsch had no plans to sell the plan. Now, it can be bought with a click of a button.

So what is SENSA?

The ingredients seem very simple. They include Maltodrexin which is derived from corn, Tricalcium Phosphate, Carmine, Soy and Milk.

SENSA was developed by Dr. Alan Hirsch after he did a clinical study testing the scientific principles of smell and its effect on appetite.

According to the SENSA website, www.trysensa.com, " As you eat smell and taste receptors send messages to your brain which release hormones that tell your body it's time to stop eating. This is a phenomenon we call Sensory Specific Satiety. By enhancing smell, Sensa Tastants were designed to help speed up the process and trigger your "I feel full" signal, so you eat less and feel more satisfied. Because Sensa works with your body's natural impulses, rather than against them, there are no feelings of hunger or intense cravings."

Over a six month period, Hirsch tested SENSA on 1,436 participants who were instructed to not change their existing diet or program. Those in the group lost on average 30.5 pounds over the six months.

Does it work then?

The site offers many testimonials in which individuals claim that it is successful. In fact, SENSA is offering to pay $1,000 to use successful testimonies. Don't get to excited, you have to have before and after pictures and a detailed log.

This isn't a quick weight loss, most weight lost listed is over a six month or longer period. That doesn't say it has not been successful at curbing appetite for many.

The first 30 days are free so it may be worth the try. The catch is the cost after the thirty days is not highly publicized although I have seen it for under $50 for a starter kit to over $200 for a six month supply. Per pound, I am not sure what that equates to, but it may be worth the money. That is something you will have to decide on your own.

Is it the best solution?

Even Dr. Hirsch, himself, said in the interview that diet and exercise is the best weight loss system. Changing eating habits and exercising is the best way to maintain and lose weight.

I see the ads. I need something that will be a change in eating habits (as opposed to a diet to start and then stop and yikes, right back on) This looks intriguing tough and thanks for explaining it to your readers!

Hi Laura,

This article is interesting, though I don`t think I can afford it. One less sausage for tea for me then!
